Engineering process
The development of this 200 ton winch began with a hydraulic concept and a comprehensive set of system requirements. Building on this, a robust mechanical base design was engineered.
All subsystems were assembled in-house and underwent a rigorous Factory Acceptance Test (FAT). Given the scale of the winch, final assembly was completed on-site by our team using a mobile workshop container. Following installation, the system was commissioned with a Site Acceptance Test (SAT), which included a 200 ton offshore pull test.
This delivery showcases our full internal capabilities across Mechanical, Hydraulic, Electrical, and Control Systems through the collaboration of DÉGRA and HydroCAN.”

System capabilities
With five different speed modes, this winch offers the ultimate flexibility—from maximum pulling power to high-speed performance, and everything in between. By selecting the appropriate mode, the winch’s entire performance profile can be adapted to suit the task at hand. Because of the wide speed range the winch system does not require a high amount of power. Its efficiënt drive system and seamless variable speed control proves to consume a low amount of energie.
This is made possible by our advanced control of its Hägglunds motors, utilising freewheeling and displacement shifting for seamless transitions. These direct drive motors also deliver highly precise Constant Tension control. To ensure total reliability, the system includes load pins for real-time monitoring and a level winder for perfect cable spooling, resulting in a safe, smooth, and fully controlled winching process.
Power Pack
The winch and level winder are powered by an EHPU (Electric Hydraulic Power Unit) with two 90 kW motors. Delivering up to 750 L/min of hydraulic power.
The power pack is fitted inside a 10ft container equipped with:
- 1250 L hydraulic oil tank
- ± 50 kW cooling capacity
- ± 40 kW heating power
- Return and pressure filtration
- CANBUS control system
Control System
Control systems are where the true difference is made; if a complex system is difficult to operate, its functionality is compromised. This is where the strength of the DÉGRA-HydroCAN combination becomes clear. By managing and assembling the entire product within a single team, we ensure seamless integration across all systems.
The winch is controlled via a dedicated panel on the bridge, allowing the operator to manage full functionality with just a few intuitive buttons and joysticks. The interface provides real-time feedback on system performance, using live data from sensors on both the winch and the HPU. This enables the operator to respond swiftly to changing conditions while monitoring the active settings of the entire installation.
